Texas Instruments chip replacement project fined in Russia: "Geraniums" fly on them

"Progress" was two years late with the development of a domestic analogue

The Ministry of Industry and Trade fined NIIMA "Progress" 24.5 million rubles for disrupting the deadlines for the production of domestic microchips. The development was supposed to replace foreign analogues from Microchip and Texas Instruments.

The project was planned to be completed in 2020, but the work dragged on for two years. The actual delay was 731 days.

This refers to key USB 2.0 components - hubs and interface converters. Such microchips are used in onboard electronics, communication systems, and industrial equipment. For example, such chips were recently found in "Geran" series drones.

The developed microchips are designed to operate at temperatures down to minus 60 °C and have a service life of up to 100 thousand hours, which makes them applicable in aviation, energy, and defense systems.

Earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Trade stated that domestic manufacturers of materials for printed circuit boards produce world-class products and fully meet demand. Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov also stated that Russia restored its competencies in microelectronics, lost in the 1980s.
