KAMAZ to build first new APC in 40 years to replace outdated models

Company head Kokogin: the vehicle could be released in 2027

KAMAZ announced the creation of a new armored personnel carrier (APC), an experimental industrial batch of which will be released in 2027, with tests to be conducted in the current year 2026. This was announced by the company's head, Sergey Kokogin.

Judging by the statement, this will be a new initiative development that should replace other outdated APCs.

Our APC is outdated, there is no full-fledged one. Our company undertook to make it independently. This year we will raise this vehicle, begin testing, so that next year we can release an experimental industrial batch.
Sergey Kokogin, head of PAO KAMAZ

It should be noted that KAMAZ is not the main developer of traditional APCs for the military; this is handled by Arzamas. Nevertheless, the company produces armored vehicles, such as "Typhoon" and "Lynx".

Analysts of the Telegram channel "Voenny Osvedomitel" suggested that the new vehicle could be based on a 6x6 or 8x8 wheeled platform with anti-mine and anti-bullet protection, as well as a combat module with a 12.7-mm machine gun or a 30-mm cannon.

We would also finally like to see an adequate rear ramp in a domestic APC for troop boarding/disembarking and its convenient placement, so that the vehicle can perform the task of a front-line taxi.

The latest modification of the BTR-82A was adopted in 2013. Despite extensive modernization, it is based on the hull of the Soviet BTR-80, developed in the early 1980s.
