PD-8 Engine Meets Certification Requirements

Deputy Sales Director Fyodor Mironov: Tests Proved the Correctness of Design Solutions

Recent tests of the PD-8 aircraft engine for hail ingestion once again proved that the power plant meets all necessary requirements. This was stated by Fyodor Mironov, Deputy Sales Director of the United Engine Corporation (ODK).

According to him, ODK chose the right design and technological solutions.

The mechanical strength of blade edges, assemblies, and parts has been confirmed.

ODK emphasized that the design of the PD-8 engine complies with the requirements of the certification basis.

It should be noted that for the hail tests, more than three tons of ice pellets with a diameter of 16 mm were produced. During the test, the engine received ice charges weighing 220 kg at a speed of 240 m/sec and continued to operate.

At the end of March, Rosaviatsia's materials, presented at the final board meeting of the Russian Ministry of Transport, mentioned plans to certify the power plant in April. However, it is already May, and there is no information yet about the issuance of the type certificate.
