Sovereign SIM card ready: Beeline completes testing of "YUSIM-RF"

Keys are generated, stored, and personalized only within Russia

Beeline has completed testing of "YUSIM-RF" SIM cards, developed jointly with Era Tekhnologiy. The main difference from ordinary cards is that the entire cycle of working with secret keys (generation, personalization, storage) takes place exclusively on the territory of Russia. The operating system of the cards is included in the register of Russian software, which ensures sovereign control over the software core and eliminates dependence on foreign components and updates.

In terms of cost, "YUSIM-RF" is comparable to other Russian deep localization solutions. The architecture is open — available to all Russian operators and manufacturers without restrictions. The strategic goal of the development is to prepare the industry for the transition to Russian cryptographic algorithms.

The industry is moving towards a mandatory transition to domestic SIM cards with Russian cryptography and in-country key production. Regulatory requirements are already being formed, and the criteria for "domesticity" are being clarified. The main barrier so far is economic.

Yury Stashevsky, Head of Telecom Network Protection at Beeline, explained that currently, the main part of the Russian SIM card market (up to 90%) consists of foreign and adapted solutions. In the face of growing cyber threats and sanctions pressure, the introduction of a domestic product has become a critically important condition for reducing risks to private and national security, as well as for strengthening the sovereignty of the country's telecom infrastructure. The solution is focused on real technological localization of the production cycle.
