Rosobrnadzor stated that no one is going to completely cancel homework, but its format will have to be changed. The reason is the widespread use of neural networks, with the help of which schoolchildren easily get ready-made answers. The agency believes that this devalues learning: the teacher does not see the student's real knowledge, and the student himself loses the point of understanding the material.
The head of Rosobrnadzor, Anzor Muzaev, explained that the problem mainly concerns exact sciences, where problem solutions are easily generated by algorithms. Humanities subjects (memorizing poems, retelling texts) were not affected – neural networks will not replace the student's live work there. Muzaev also noted that the traditional homework system is losing effectiveness and the question of its expediency is currently being actively discussed.
The agency reminded that Russia already has time norms for completing homework: first-graders spend no more than an hour, students in grades 4-5 – up to two hours, high school students – up to three and a half hours. The number of tests is also limited, and a unified lesson planning has been introduced. These standards, as well as the assignments themselves, may also be revised.
Meanwhile, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin announced that parliamentarians are preparing their proposals to change the approach to homework – to reduce the burden on schoolchildren and eliminate formalism.
