The sunken research vessel (NIS) "Okeanograf" will be raised from the bottom of the Tiksi seaport in 2026. This became known during a meeting of the State Commission for Arctic Development chaired by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev.
According to the Ministry of Ecology of Yakutia, there are 12 sunken ships in the Bulunsky district. They are planned to be raised to the surface, cut up, and removed for subsequent disposal.
The corresponding technical specification has been agreed upon with Rosprirodnadzor and Rosrybolovstvo. This project is planned to be implemented by 2030.
NIS "Okeanograf"
The medium fishing trawler was built in the 1950s in the GDR for the Soviet Union. In March 1968, the vessel was transferred to the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI).
Later, it was reclassified as a small hydrographic vessel and named "Okeanograf". During the Soviet era, the NIS was used for hydrological and oceanological measurements to study the Arctic.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, due to lack of funding, many ships were decommissioned. This likely also affected the NIS "Okeanograf", moored in the port of Tiksi, where it sank. The circumstances of its sinking are not mentioned in open sources.
