The new PD-8 aircraft engine may receive its type certificate within a month, although the procedure was initially planned to be completed in April. The timing was disclosed by Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Gennady Abramenkov.
The PD-8 engine — literally, I think, no more than a month will pass before this engine receives its type certificate.
At the end of March, materials from Rosaviatsiya presented at the final board meeting of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation spoke of plans to certify the powerplant as early as April. By the end of the month, excluding April 24, three full working days remained.
In December 2025, a source in the aviation industry told Biznes Online that the PD-8 was not delivering the required thrust for flights with a full passenger cabin. Whether this problem has been resolved is unknown. According to official documents, the PD-8 thrust at maximum takeoff power is 8,056 kgf.
