Foreign buyers lined up for the stealth Su-75 Checkmate

Journalist Jonathan Edward: many countries will be interested in operating the fighter

Many countries will take an interest in the new Russian fifth-generation single-engine Su-75 Checkmate fighter because of its low cost compared with competitors. This was stated by Malaysian journalist Jonathan Edward.

He recalled that the Su-75 is classified as a light fighter, which means it will be cheaper than the Su-57 while offering similar potential.

Many countries will be very interested in operating it, since it has many of the capabilities of the Su-57.

Edward acknowledged that Russian weapons systems have a legendary reputation thanks to their ability to operate in the most difficult conditions. It is this factor that will ensure global demand, he concluded.

Let us recall that the Su-57 will receive the latest AL-51F-1 engine, allowing it to perform supersonic cruise flights without engaging the afterburner. The internal weapons bay can carry up to five air-to-air or air-to-ground missiles, helping maintain maximum stealth from radar.

The approximate export price of the Checkmate was estimated at around $30 million, while the basic version of the American F-35 costs $80 million and up. The head of flight operations at Sukhoi, Hero of Russia Sergey Bogdan, reported that the first flight of the Su-75 would take place at the beginning of 2026, but so far no news about it has emerged.
