The rescue tug vessel (SBS) Altay (Project 1452) arrived at the main base of the Northern Fleet — the city of Severomorsk after a long-distance deployment. This was reported by the fleet's press service.
The tug's crew spent almost 5 months at sea. During this time, the vessel covered about 17,000 nautical miles. The sailors carried out search-and-rescue support tasks for ships and vessels of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea and the Northeast Atlantic.
At the port, the servicemen were met by Mikhail Belov, head of the Northern Fleet's search and emergency rescue operations directorate. He presented departmental awards to distinguished sailors.
The Northern Fleet is considered the most powerful within the Russian Navy. It includes submarines, including Project 955A Borei-A, Project 885 Yasen, and Project 636.3 Varshavyanka, as well as large anti-submarine ships of Project 1155 and small anti-submarine ships of Project 1124M. The sailors of Severomorsk ensure the protection of the Russian Arctic.
