FAS takes on Wildberries and Ozon: conditions for sellers raise questions

Marketplaces are revising the rules on the fly

The Federal Antimonopoly Service has issued warnings to Wildberries and Ozon after changes in their work with sellers. The regulator has several complaints at once — from payments to logistics.

The main problem is money. According to the FAS, marketplaces have started to transfer revenue for sold goods for a longer period. At the same time, tariffs have changed: the cost of delivery and returns has become tied to the price of the goods, and not to the actual costs. Moreover, some of the conditions changed after the goods were accepted into the warehouse.

As a result, sellers find themselves in a situation where they cannot properly calculate expenses and profits.

Separately, the FAS drew attention to Ozon. This refers to the paid "original" badge on product cards. It creates the impression that the product has been verified, although the platform does not provide direct guarantees of authenticity.

If the marketplaces do not correct the situation, the matter may go to an antitrust investigation.

The companies themselves are reacting cautiously. Wildberries said they are studying the warning. Ozon explained that the "original" badge is received by sellers with documents for the brand or those who have made a security deposit — in case of a fake, the product is removed from sale and the money is withheld.

The story is part of a broader market review: previously, the FAS had already demanded that marketplaces explain commissions and working conditions for different sellers. Now the pressure is increasing — and affects the key rules of the game.
