Serbian military personnel are mastering the modernized M-84 tanks in AS1 and AS2 versions. The updated vehicles have already entered the units and are undergoing exercises at the "Oresac" training ground.
M-84 is a Yugoslav adaptation of the Soviet T-72M1. During the modernization of the tank, the protection and electronics were significantly improved.
The vehicles are equipped with a new generation of dynamic protection, modern thermal imaging sights, and a digital fire control system. A remotely controlled combat module and a commander's panoramic sight are also installed.
Additionally, the tanks received laser irradiation sensors and a modified chassis, which increased their survivability and mobility.
As a result of the modernization, the M-84 acquired capabilities close to modern main battle tanks, including effective operation at night and in conditions of limited visibility.
