Athletes will be monitored by digital systems: a unified health database for athletes will be created in Russia

It will include medical data, examinations, and even physical fitness indicators - the platform will be launched as early as 2026

In Russia, they want to collect all data on the health of athletes into a single digital system — from basic information to the results of medical examinations. This will allow real-time monitoring of the condition of each member of the national teams and make decisions faster.

We are talking about creating a state information system (GIS) with a long name — "Medical Information and Analytical System for the Functioning and Maintenance of an Electronic Register of the Health Status of Athletes of the National Teams of the Russian Federation." It will also include data on athletes with health peculiarities. The bill was prepared by the Federal Medical-Biological Agency (FMBA).

On April 13, the initiative was approved by the government commission on legislative activities. This was reported by Vedomosti sources. The document was developed in pursuance of the President's order of July 10, 2025. If adopted, the system will start operating on September 1, 2026. The government will determine the procedure for its maintenance.

The system will store key data: SNILS, full name, date of birth, gender, address of residence, passport data, type of sport, rank or title, affiliation to the national team, as well as information on health status — including the results of medical examinations.

Information will be transmitted by the Ministry of Sports, FMBA, state and municipal medical institutions, sports federations and national teams.

Funds have already been allocated for the development and implementation of the system:

  • 353 million rubles in 2026;
  • 759 million rubles in 2027;
  • 1.1 billion rubles in 2028.

According to the FMBA, the new digital platform will allow collecting, storing and analyzing data in a single circuit, as well as using artificial intelligence to help doctors, predict the condition of athletes and identify factors affecting the results.

The operator of the system will be the National Center for Sports Medicine of the FMBA, established in 2025 by presidential decree.

The Ministry of Sports supported the initiative, but noted that the specific mechanisms of operation will become clear after the development of the system.

Experts believe that this will improve the quality of medical support and training of athletes. Honored Coach of Russia Alexander Tarkhanov recalled that previously this was done by dispensaries, and the digital system will make the process more efficient.

According to Deputy Dmitry Svishchev, a unified platform will be an important step towards improving safety, training efficiency and individualization of training.
