Max as "Lada": Harsh statements about messengers in the State Duma

Comparison with cars explains the approach to internet rules

The State Duma made a vivid comparison of messengers with cars. The national service Max was equated to domestic cars, and Telegram and WhatsApp were equated to foreign cars, which, according to the deputies, "follow their own rules."

The head of the IT committee, Sergey Boyarsky, suggested a simple analogy: it is impossible to imagine a situation on the road where some cars strictly observe traffic rules, stop at the request of inspectors, and let pedestrians pass, while others ignore the rules and continue to drive calmly.

According to him, a similar picture is now emerging in the digital environment. Russian platforms are forced to work within the framework of requirements, while foreign services remain more free in their actions, despite their popularity and convenience for users.

It is this imbalance that the State Duma considers to be a key problem. The approach that is being discussed is to establish uniform rules for everyone: if a service operates in the country, it must comply with the same requirements regardless of its origin.
