Coronal hole will affect Earth on Friday, April 10

The upcoming geomagnetic storm will be weak

A weak and short-term impact of a coronal hole on the Earth's magnetosphere is expected on Friday, April 10, 2026. This was reported by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the IKI RAS and ISZF SB RAS.

According to scientists, a coronal hole has been recorded again in the current images of the Sun - an area with rarefied plasma and an open magnetic field. Such structures have become commonplace, but their impact on Earth will begin only at the end of the week. A weak stream of high-speed solar wind is expected, which will not create interference for satellites, power grids and navigation systems.

Experts note that the background activity of the Sun continues to decline and has already fallen below level C. Current indicators correspond to the values of 2022. This suggests that the star has entered a phase of gradual attenuation after a recent maximum.

Researchers admit that residual energy in the bowels of the Sun will still persist for a couple of years, so individual powerful flares are still possible. However, the general trend indicates a movement towards a minimum. It is expected that from the second half of 2028 or the beginning of 2029, a period of deep solar minimum will begin, which will last three to four years. At this time, an extremely low number of spots and weak radiation will be observed on the star.
