Hackers Get to Cars: Not Only Data is Under Attack Anymore

Digital vulnerabilities are beginning to affect the real operation of equipment

Cyberattacks on the automotive industry have accelerated sharply: in 2025–2026, their number increased by 30–40%. And it's not just about data leaks anymore — supply chains, logistics, and even the cars themselves are under threat. One successful hack can lead to production shutdowns or malfunctions in cars.

The main vector is contractors. Hackers rarely go directly to car manufacturers, more often they enter through integrators and third-party services. One vulnerable contractor — and access to the infrastructure is open.

This is especially sensitive for the Russian market: many dependencies on local suppliers and the constant integration of new systems only expands the "attack perimeter."

Not only business processes are under attack, but also the cars themselves.

In 8 months of 2025, 328 attacks on automotive systems were recorded — 20% more than a year earlier.

In 2026, there was already a demonstrative failure: due to an attack on a telematics provider, cars massively stopped opening and starting.

Main entry points:

  • connected cars
  • over-the-air updates
  • telematics systems
  • remote access
  • CAN bus and electronics

Hidden hacks pose a serious threat. Hackers can remain undetected inside the system for months, collecting confidential information and developments. The situation is becoming increasingly alarming: since the beginning of 2026, every fifth company has already been compromised. As systems become more complex, the number of vulnerabilities increases, which facilitates unauthorized access.
