A new milling machine with numerical control has started operating at the mechanical assembly production facility of BelAZ. The equipment is intended for cutting ring gears, key elements of gearboxes installed on dump trucks with payload capacities from 90 to 450 tons.
The company's Technical Director, Andrei Kovalyov, noted that high-speed machining of the gear tooth profile on modern equipment makes it possible to increase productivity two to three times. According to him, after the new technology is applied to the entire range of gears, the plant will be able to save about 5,700 standard hours annually.
The manufacturing quality of gear transmissions directly affects the reliability and service life of the transmission. Under quarry operating conditions, where machinery works under constant load, the precision of tooth cutting becomes critically important: it determines how long the unit will operate without repair.
The modernization of the section is part of the plant's scheduled renewal of production capacities. In the future, BelAZ intends to switch the manufacture of its entire fleet of gears to CNC, which will simplify quality control and speed up the output of finished assemblies.
