More and more women are entering the nuclear industry due to safety and automation, says Rosatom head

Likhachev spoke at the AtomSkills championship in Yekaterinburg

More women are entering the nuclear industry. This was stated by Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev at the annual AtomSkills championship of working and engineering professions in Yekaterinburg, TASS reports. According to him, modern working conditions, technology and safety allow the fair half of humanity to be more actively involved in the industrial agenda.

AtomSkills has been held according to the WorldSkills methodology since 2016. This year, teams from Rosatom, Roscosmos, USC, SIBUR, students from 76 specialized universities, as well as specialists from Turkey, China, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are participating.

Previously, the nuclear industry was associated with heavy physical labor. Today, automation, remote control and modern radiation protection have changed the profile. Women are increasingly taking positions as NPP operators and process engineers, where accuracy and responsibility are important. This is not a tribute to fashion, but an objective need of the industry for qualified personnel.
