Rumors of Sochi Airport Closure Denied by Rosaviatsiya

Since the beginning of the year, the air harbor in the south has introduced temporary restrictions 30 times for safety

Sochi Airport continues to receive flights — there will be no long-term closure. According to Natalya Andrianova, Deputy Head of Rosaviatsiya, at a forum in Abkhazia, all rumors about the cessation of flights are not true.

Since the beginning of 2026, Rosaviatsiya has introduced temporary blockages of the airport's operation 30 times. Each time — due to threats to flight safety. Tour operators are already sounding the alarm: Alexan Mkrtchyan, Vice President of the Alliance of Travel Agencies, estimated the possible drop in tourist flow for the May holidays at 10%.

For comparison: the airports of Anapa, Gelendzhik, Lipetsk, Kursk and eight other cities in the south and central Russia have been closed since 2022. Sochi remains the only "air gate" to the Black Sea. But 30 alarms in three months is a concern for passengers and losses for airlines.
