Russia will have a scientific and technological reserve for sixth-generation communication by 2030–2032. According to Senator Artem Sheikin in an interview with TASS, the Ministry of Digital Development has already allocated 750 million rubles to create the foundation for 6G. Skoltech and NIC Telecom are developing it, and the first pilot zones are planned to be launched by 2028.
During the transition to 5G, there was a problem with the so-called "golden range" of frequencies — 3.4–3.8 GHz, which turned out to be occupied. Sheikin emphasized that in order to avoid repeating mistakes, frequency issues for 6G need to be resolved as early as possible.
While China and the United States are testing 6G at speeds of 100 Gbps and higher, Russia is only laying the scientific foundation. 750 million rubles is incomparably less than the billion-dollar budgets of competitors. Without clear frequency planning and development work, there is a risk of getting a lagging standard by 2032.
