For many countries that fought against the colonizers, Soviet and Russian weapons "became a real symbol of freedom." The image of the Kalashnikov assault rifle (AK-47/AK-74) "was present on the coats of arms and flags of five African states at different periods," the head of the intelligence agency summarized.

Symbolism with the Kalashnikov Assault Rifle

The national coat of arms of Mozambique was approved in 1990. It also depicts an AK-47 and a red star.

In 1981, the coat of arms of Zimbabwe with the AK-47 was adopted. At the bottom of the emblem is the inscription "Unity, Freedom and Labor".

From 1984 to 1997, the Kalashnikov assault rifle adorned the coat of arms of Burkina Faso. Now, protection and security are symbolized by a spear and shield.

The authorities of East Timor approved the national coat of arms in 2007. The central place is given to the AK-47, bow and arrows.
