A large-scale failure occurred in the operation of banks and payment systems in Russia — users massively encountered problems with payment and cash withdrawals.
According to customer reports, transfers were not going through, terminals were not working, and ATMs refused to dispense money. The failures affected several major players at once: Sberbank, VTB, T-Bank, as well as the Faster Payments System (FPS). Later, users of Alfa-Bank also reported problems.
In a short time, monitoring services recorded thousands of complaints. Sberbank alone received more than 4,000 requests in an hour. Users also complained about failures in the FPS and other banks.
Sberbank confirmed that some customers were experiencing difficulties with card payments and the use of services. The bank stated that they promptly began to fix the problem. Users noted that payments via terminals, QR codes, and Bluetooth were not working, and ATMs gave errors after entering the PIN code.
The National Payment Card System (NPCS) emphasized that their infrastructure was functioning normally. According to the system, the failure occurred on the side of one of the banks and did not affect the safety of customers' funds.
Later, Sberbank announced the complete restoration of services. The bank noted that access to operations has been restored, and the team promptly fixed the failure, apologizing to users for the inconvenience.
