Navigation in St. Petersburg has become smarter: Yandex Maps shows traffic lights

Now drivers see the signal in advance and can drive without sudden braking

A new navigation feature has been launched in St. Petersburg - now drivers can see traffic light signals directly in the application. The update has already appeared in Yandex Maps and Navigator and covers about 70% of the city's traffic lights.

The system shows the current color of the nearest traffic light, and if there is a timer, also the time until it changes. In addition, the application warns drivers with a sound: for example, when there is a red light ahead or when a green light will soon turn on.

The function helps to adjust the speed in advance and drive more smoothly, without sudden braking and acceleration. As a result, there is less stress behind the wheel, time savings and even a reduction in emissions due to smoother driving.

Data on signals comes directly from the city's traffic management department. The system currently operates in the center of St. Petersburg, including key highways such as Nevsky and Ligovsky Prospekts, but it is planned to expand it to the entire city in the future.

In addition, information about traffic lights is taken into account when building a route: if the trip passes through an intersection, the application can add waiting time in advance. If desired, the function can be disabled in the settings.
