Strategic Metal Plant for T-90 Tanks to Suspend Ferroalloy Production

ChEMK will transfer smelting shop workers to other departments from April 1

The management of the Chelyabinsk Electrometallurgical Plant (ChEMK) has announced plans to temporarily close the smelting shop. The order will take effect from April 1.

The decision will affect 170 employees of the site, who will be temporarily transferred to other workshops, representatives of the plant clarified.

Due to a significant decrease in demand for ferroalloys and the inability to sell the products currently being produced, the plant is reducing production volume for three months in the ferroalloy smelting and processing area of workshop No. 7.

Employees will be provided with a scheduled paid vacation in accordance with the vacation schedule approved for 2026.

ChEMK is a major producer of ferroalloys necessary for smelting high-quality alloy steel. The head of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov, pointed out the important status of ChEMK for the defense industry: "without this product, of course, we will not build airplanes, tanks, or cannons".

It should be noted that ChEMK's products are used in the production of all major modern Russian tanks, including the T-90, T-72, and the latest Armata platform.
