Sevmash manufactured and shipped the third bearing for the nuclear icebreaker of project 22220 "Leningrad"

The height of the structure is 2.5 meters, and its total weight is 25 tons

Sevmash has completed the production and handed over to the customer the third in a series of bearings for the nuclear icebreaker "Leningrad". The plant has completely manufactured a full set of products for the vessel of project 22220, which is being built at the Baltic Shipyard.

The height of the product reaches 2.5 meters, and the total weight in assembled form is about 25 tons. The company noted that these are the largest parts for production and technical purposes in the entire history of the plant. Three such bearings are required to equip one ship. The first part was sent to St. Petersburg at the end of last year, the second one — in February 2026.

Currently, Sevmash is manufacturing bearings for the sixth serial universal nuclear icebreaker "Stalingrad". Everything is going according to schedule, the hulls of all three bearings are at the stage of manufacturing assembly units. At the end of May, they will be sent from the hull-welding production to the mechanical workshop for processing, and then for final assembly. More than twenty workshops and divisions are working on the project.

Icebreakers of project 22220 are considered the largest and most powerful in the world. Their main task is to ensure year-round navigation in the western Arctic region. Currently, four icebreakers built at the Baltic Shipyard are successfully operated: "Arktika", "Sibir", "Ural" and "Yakutia". The construction of two more icebreakers of the project is underway there: "Leningrad" and "Chukotka". The seventh icebreaker — "Stalingrad" — was laid down on November 18, 2025.
