Jamming-resistant plywood kamikaze drone "Molniya-2" has changed its purpose

Now the drone is also used for reconnaissance

Russian military personnel have begun using a new modification of the Molniya-2 strike drone. Now the drone can act as a scout.

"Molniya" has been improved. Now it has a rotating camera with 10x zoom, more capacious batteries to increase flight range, a microcomputer for data processing, and a mesh modem for reliable communication.

The updated configuration turns the "Molniya-2" into a specialized tool for collecting intelligence, targeting and surveillance, and, if necessary, into a kamikaze strike drone.

In addition, "Molniya" drones are built from aluminum, foam and plywood, which makes them cheaper and lighter than analogues — Zala Z-16 and Supercam S-350. Nine out of ten drones successfully reach the target successfully, the percentage of hits exceeds 90.

The built-in autopilot mode allows the device to maintain course and perform the task even when attempts are made to jam the connection. "Molniya" leaves the coverage area of electronic warfare equipment and continues to fly to the target when control is restored.
