Law is there - no cars: only 7% of taxis in Russia fall under localization

The market relies on Lada, there are not enough affordable models

Only 7% of cars operating as taxis in Russia meet the requirements of the new localization law. This data was provided by the "Maxim" ride-hailing service based on an analysis of partner fleets.

Almost the entire localized segment is occupied by AvtoVAZ cars — Lada's share reached 6.8%. Other brands are present only sporadically. The share of "Moskvich" was 0.17%, Evolute — 0.02%, Voyah — 0.004%. Sollers and UMO cars are practically not used in existing fleets.

In the regions, the payback cost of a car for a taxi usually does not exceed 1.5 million rubles, but only a few models meet this threshold. More comfortable options, including Lada Vesta, cost about 2 million rubles. A significant part of localized cars are sold in the range of 2.5–4 million rubles and above.

At the same time, the law that came into force on March 1st does not prohibit the use of foreign cars in taxis completely. Private carriers will be able to include cars in the regional register that have been in their ownership for more than six months and used by one owner.

However, the share of such cars is limited — no more than 25% of the total number of registered taxis in the region. The quota will continue to be in effect until January 1, 2033.
