2.8 billion rubles from the federal budget will go to modernize Okhotsk Airport

The runway will be lengthened, and the flight schedule will be expanded for the convenience of residents of the north of the Khabarovsk Territory

The federal budget has allocated 2.8 billion rubles to lengthen the runway of Okhotsk Airport, the northernmost air harbor of the Khabarovsk Territory. Work on the facility began in 2021, but the project was not completed on time. Now the contractor will start work in the second quarter of this year, and the final stage of reconstruction is scheduled to be completed by 2028.

After modernization, the airport will be able to receive more capacious aircraft, which will meet the growing demand for the Khabarovsk-Okhotsk air route. This route remains one of the most popular in the region, and for residents of the Okhotsk region, aviation is actually considered the only way for passenger transportation over long distances.

Governor Dmitry Demeshin instructed the transport unit of the regional government to increase the number of flights to Okhotsk. Currently, flights are limited by weather conditions, but an additional 38 flights are planned before the start of the summer season. As a result, the total number of flights on this route this year will reach 498.

Lengthening the runway and updating the infrastructure of Okhotsk Airport will not only increase the capacity of the air harbor, but also increase the reliability of air communication in difficult meteorological conditions characteristic of the northern territories of the Khabarovsk Territory.
