UEC Extends Turbine Life with New Approach

The thickness of the coating layers of the units is selected for a specific climate

UEC-Gas Turbines showed the production cycle of painting gas turbine units. The technology directly affects the service life of equipment operating in the cold conditions of the Far North, the heat of the southern regions, and the humid marine climate, explained the United Engine Corporation (UEC).

The coating protects the metal from corrosion, ultraviolet radiation, and mechanical damage. Engineers select painting parameters for the region of operation.

For example, the thickness of the primer for the units used in the middle zone and in the Far North differs by a factor of three.

In the painting process, several chambers process large-sized blocks. Specialists clean surfaces, apply inter-operational priming, apply a multi-layer primer-enamel system, and apply finishing enamel. At each stage, the control service measures the layer thickness, checks for defects, and checks the adhesion of the coating.

As a reminder, UEC-Gas Turbines is part of the United Engine Corporation of Rostec State Corporation, the main manufacturer of aircraft engines for civil and military aircraft.
