The Moscow Traffic Management Center has installed and modernized traffic lights at 26 addresses in almost all districts of the capital since the beginning of 2026. This was announced on March 17 by Moscow Deputy Mayor Maxim Liksutov. Priority when choosing addresses is given to places with increased accident rates and routes to social facilities: schools, kindergartens and clinics. In addition to new installations, specialists from the Traffic Management Center have adjusted the settings of the operating modes of existing traffic lights more than 300 times — so that pedestrians wait less for the green light, and transport passes intersections faster.
New traffic lights in Moscow: which addresses received objects in the first place
Each installation point is the result of an analysis of the road situation, and not an administrative decision, Liksutov emphasized. The main criteria are the safety of people, traffic intensity and outdated regulation schemes.
In the North-Eastern Administrative District, traffic lights appeared on Bibirevskaya Street near houses 7 and 9 — for convenient access to houses and stops. New objects have also been installed in Shokalsky Proezd near house 9, on Letchika Babushkina Street near house 20 and in the 15th proezd of Maryina Roshcha near house 4.
Modernization of existing traffic lights: what is being changed at the request of residents
The Traffic Management Center is also finalizing existing traffic lights based on appeals from citizens. Where residents ask to make the crossing more convenient, call buttons for pedestrians and additional sections for turning or U-turning are added. Adjustment of time modes — reducing the waiting time for a green light for pedestrians and optimizing phases for transport — has been carried out more than 300 times since the beginning of the year.
Since the beginning of the year, the Traffic Management Center has installed and modernized traffic lights at 26 addresses in almost all districts of Moscow. First of all, attention was paid to places where accidents occurred, as well as routes to social facilities — schools, kindergartens and clinics
For comparison: in 2023, the Traffic Management Center modernized traffic light objects throughout the city as part of the intelligent transport system of Moscow program — then hundreds of intersections received adaptive control. The current cycle of work is focused on point interventions near social facilities, where the concentration of pedestrian traffic is maximum in the morning and afternoon hours.
The systematic approach of the Traffic Management Center — analyzing traffic before installation, and not after complaints — changes the logic of the city's traffic light management. Taking into account the requests of residents as one of the criteria for modernization means that citizens receive a direct tool to influence the road infrastructure of their area.
