Germans Refused - Russia Did It: Rostec Launches Oxygen Plant in Myanmar

Air separation unit produces up to 40,000 m³ of oxygen per hour

The company "Tyazhpromexport" (part of the State Corporation "Rostec") has commissioned an oxygen plant at a pig iron plant in Myanmar. The facility is located in Pang Pet and is the first step in the program to restore the metallurgical enterprise. The complete completion of the work is scheduled for mid-2027.

The air separation unit has a capacity of up to 40,000 m³ of oxygen per hour. The gas goes directly to the "Romelt" furnaces for continuous smelting. To ensure such performance, the station consumes a lot of energy: the system has two engines with a capacity of 8.9 megawatts each.

The "Romelt" technology allows processing low-quality ores. This reduces the burden on the environment and increases the efficiency of raw materials use, which is important for the growing industrial sector of the country.

The Prime Minister of Shan State, Aung Aung, thanked the Russian and Myanmar engineers for their cooperation. He noted that the operation required serious efforts due to the high energy intensity of the station. According to him, the plant will cover the needs of Shan State in steel and will become a key facility for the region's industry.

Sergey Kopylov, Deputy General Director of Tyazhpromexport, said that the project was implemented on time, despite the sanctions pressure. Previously, a German manufacturer refused to cooperate, but the Russian company used its own technologies and maintained high quality standards. The new facility guarantees the stable operation of the plant.
