Mechanism for searching people through the Ministry of Internal Affairs comes into force in Russia

What is included in the address and reference information under the new law signed by Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a federal law that introduces a mechanism for requesting address and reference information about citizens through the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the "Gosuslugi" portal.

According to the law, individuals and legal entities are given the opportunity to send an application to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to search for a citizen of Russia and establish contact with him.

After registering the application, the department sends a notification to the person being searched for at his registration address. The document indicates the applicant's data and the reason for the request. At the same time, the decision to provide information about oneself is made exclusively by the citizen himself - the law does not provide for the forced transfer of contacts.

The law establishes that if there is a lack of information to identify a person or if there is no information about him in the Ministry of Internal Affairs database, the applicant will be sent a refusal with a mandatory explanation of the reasons. This avoids errors associated with incomplete or outdated records.

Citizens are entitled to access information about themselves in the relevant database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Access to information about minors or incapacitated persons is only allowed to their legal representatives. After a person's death, this right passes to his heirs.
