China retains its position as Russia's largest trading partner: at the end of 2025, it accounted for about 27% of Russian exports and 39% of imports, according to data from a study by the International Trade Laboratory of the Gaidar Institute.
However, China's share in imports decreased by 5.8 percentage points compared to the previous year. The main reason is the dominance of Chinese cars, the supply of which fell sharply after the increase in the recycling fee. Imports of cars from China almost halved - to 9.4 billion dollars (minus 47.8%).
Overall, the supply of goods from China to Russia in 2025 decreased to 101.8 billion dollars (-11.7%). The share of the Russian market in Chinese exports fell to 2.7% (-0.52 pp).
At the same time, the supply of other categories of machinery and equipment decreased less significantly (-10.1%), and imports of other goods remained almost unchanged (+1.7%).
