U.S. authorities have granted India a temporary permit to import Russian oil from ships at sea. The document is valid for 30 days, according to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Treasury Department clarified that the permit applies to crude oil and petroleum products of Russian origin loaded onto ships as of March 5, 2026.
According to industry sources, this measure will allow Indian refineries to maintain stable supplies and avoid short-term disruptions. Further purchases will depend on the foreign policy situation and international trade conditions.
India remains one of the largest buyers of Russian oil. A significant portion of supplies goes by sea, including transshipment in the open ocean.
