A new fraud scheme has been recorded in Russia since mid-January: attackers are sending links to install an application that supposedly opens access to the 5G network. Ozon Bank told TASS about this, warning of an increase in the number of such cases over the past month. There are already confirmed cases of financial losses.
Links are distributed via SMS, messengers and email. Senders may pose as employees of well-known companies, acquaintances or colleagues. In some cases, there is no link - instead, the user is offered to click on an image or video file, after which malicious content is downloaded.
When trying to install the application, the screen "freezes" - at this moment, attackers gain access to the device and all installed applications, including passwords and confirmation codes from SMS.
