Scientists at Don State Technical University (DSTU), together with Rostselmash, are refining the design of the "Dontekh" unmanned tractor for mass production. The machine belongs to the 1.4 traction class and was originally developed with hybrid or electric propulsion, but now the designers are focusing on full electrification. This will improve the controllability and operational stability of the unit in the field. The project also involves Rosatom Group and NAMI, which have proposed their own technological solutions.
As reported by DSTU, the project is at a high stage of readiness. "Dontekh" is unified by chassis with the BL 810 backhoe loader and other components already produced by Rostselmash, which will simplify production and maintenance.
The engineers face a more ambitious task — to create an ecosystem of unmanned machinery. The tractor is planned to be integrated with other types of unmanned vehicles, including drones, which will work in conjunction with it. To unify all devices, it is planned to use artificial intelligence technologies.
There is now a need to intensify this development; the task has arisen to bring the tractor to industrial production. Its design will require changes, including in the electronic equipment. DSTU has strong groundwork and experts who understand this topic. [...] Science does not stand still; another type of rechargeable battery is now being developed, with greater service life and capabilities.
