A major overhaul of the fourth power unit has started at the Novovoronezh NPP, which includes not only scheduled maintenance, but also modernization of key systems.
The work is carried out in accordance with the regulations: a major overhaul of the reactor vessel is carried out every four years. During the shutdown of the power unit, engineers will extract control metal samples (templates) from the inner surface of the vessel. The materials will be sent to the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute". Scientists will study the condition of the alloy in order to predict the behavior of the metal throughout the remaining service life of the equipment.
The modernization program affects the steam pipeline system for own needs. Engineers will replace the sealing elements in the steam generator and volume compensator units. Instead of standard materials, gaskets made of modern thermally expanded graphite will be used. This solution will achieve a more sealed connection of equipment connectors.
After completion of all work, the fourth unit of the Novovoronezh NPP will return to normal generation mode.
