Gas Turbine T-80BV Tanks Protected by Serial Anti-Drone "Hedgehog"

Ministry of Defense: The protection was developed against strike UAVs and shaped-charge projectiles

Military personnel of the repair company developed and installed a protective "Hedgehog" canopy on the T-80BV tanks. It protects military equipment from FPV drones and shaped-charge projectiles, the Russian Ministry of Defense said.

The "Hedgehog" design is a metal frame with 1300 "brooms" made of frayed metal cables. It entangles drones and destroys the cumulative jet of ammunition.

In addition to canopies, repairmen install dynamic and anti-drone protection kits on equipment. After maintenance, specialists must conduct running tests of armored vehicles.

It should be noted that, despite the emergence of more technological drone countermeasures, tanks continue to be reinforced with non-standard solutions.

As the military themselves noted, this protection not only allows the turret to rotate freely, but also significantly increases the chances of the vehicle surviving under the blows of UAVs attacking from all projections.

As a reminder, "The First Technical" already wrote about the protection of tanks in the form of a dandelion in November 2025, finding it in the bowels of the FIPS. Practice and theory went in the same direction, the method proved successful in countering drones.
