A unique sample of Baltic stone, which repeats the outlines of the larva of an ancient beetle, was discovered at the Kaliningrad Amber Combine (part of Rostec). The age of the find is from 30 to 50 million years, the company's press service reported. An unusual specimen was caught by specialists during manual sorting.

A unique sample of amber has survived to this day. It was formed as a result of resin entering the tunnel that the insect larva had made in the tree. The resin froze in the form of semicircular segments of its body. The found sample is not an inclusion - there is no insect itself in it, but the amber exactly conveys the shape of its larva. The discovery of a fossilized passage in Baltic amber is a great rarity. I am encountering a similar specimen for the first time in my twenty years of practice
Anna Dugina, gemmologist at the Kaliningrad Amber Combine

The unique stone will replenish the collection of the company's museum. Other rare finds of recent years will be exhibited next to it: the inclusions "Dragonfly" and "Cockroach", as well as the famous specimen "Amber Heart".

The Kaliningrad Amber Combine is the only enterprise in the world where industrial extraction and processing of Baltic stone is carried out. About 90% of the world's reserves are located in this region.
