Volga Returns to Taxi Service: New Russian Cars to Officially Replace Foreign Models from March 1

At the first stage, the manufacturer will focus on the domestic market

New cars under the Volga brand will comply with the requirements of the taxi localization law, which comes into force on March 1, 2026. This was reported by the press service of the company OOO "Proizvodstvo legkovykh avtomobilei," which holds the exclusive rights to the brand.

The models were originally developed with the localization criteria in mind. This will allow them to be used in taxi transportation without additional restrictions.

Serial production of Volga will begin in the second quarter of 2026, and sales will start in the third quarter through the official dealer network. At the first stage, the automotive group will focus exclusively on the Russian market, postponing possible exports.

At launch, the lineup will include three models — D-SUV, C-SUV and D-sedan. Production has been organized in Nizhny Novgorod at the site where Skoda and Volkswagen cars were previously manufactured.

The law on the localization of taxi cars will come into force on March 1, 2026. Its requirements apply to vehicles added to regional passenger taxi registries after that date.
