Roscosmos spoke about the western part of the Veil Nebula in the constellation Cygnus - this is an impressive supernova remnant, the corporation reports. The formation, resembling a cosmic "torn curtain", is a scattering wave of gas after a powerful star explosion.
About 10–20 thousand years ago, a massive star exploded as a supernova. The shock wave accelerated the surrounding interstellar gas, forming a giant luminous structure with a diameter of about 100 light years.
The bright glow of the object is explained by the fact that the gas, consisting mainly of hydrogen, oxygen and sulfur, is heated by a shock wave to tens of thousands of degrees.
