Crews of Su-30SM2 multirole fighters and Su-24M front-line bombers of the Baltic Fleet used aerial bombs during strikes on ground targets. This was reported by the fleet's press service.
During the training flights, the pilots practiced reconnaissance missions, fire support for units, and the elimination of hardened command posts (a bunker located below ground level) and armored vehicles of the mock enemy.
After assessing the ground situation, the Su-24M and Su-30SM2 flew to the designated sector. The pilots used OFAB-250-270 high-explosive fragmentation aerial bombs, destroying full-scale targets at a training range in the Kaliningrad Region.
The Baltic Fleet press service stated that about 50 sorties are planned as part of the exercise. More than 15 aircraft and over 100 naval aviation servicemen were involved.
The Rosoboroneksport website states that the OFAB-250-270 aerial bomb is effective against military-industrial facilities, lightly armored vehicles, and enemy manpower. The munition's weight is 268 kg, while the explosive mass in TNT equivalent is 94 kg. The bomb can be used at altitudes from 500 to 12 thousand meters and at speeds from 500 to 1.5 thousand km/h.
