Belarus and Rosatom to sign agreement on BelNPP's third unit by the end of 2026

The power unit's capacity will be 1200 MW

The Ministry of Energy of Belarus and the Rosatom State Corporation plan to sign a framework agreement on the construction of the third power unit of the Belarusian NPP by the end of 2026, according to the Minister of Energy of the Republic, Denis Moroz.

According to him, a joint interdepartmental working group has been created to prepare the document. The third power unit is expected to be completely identical to the existing ones, with a capacity of 1200 MW.

We are providing for such technical parameters of this unit as a complete copy of the units installed at the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The parameters of the unit will largely be determined by how the energy sector in the Republic of Belarus will develop.
Denis Moroz, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Belarus

In 2025, BelNPP generated about 17 billion kWh of electricity, providing approximately 40% of domestic consumption. The Minister called nuclear generation a reliable and stable source for the economy.

In addition to the third unit at the existing site in Ostrovets, the possibility of building a second NPP is being explored, with the Mogilev region being considered as a potential location.
