Il-96-400M manufacturer increases test strip: "Stalin-era" buildings to be demolished

VASO's request for the project will be considered by the Voronezh City Hall

Voronezh Aircraft Plant (VASO) has applied to the city administration with a request to transfer the territory at 27 Tsiolkovsky Street to the ownership of the S.V. Ilyushin Aviation Complex. The company plans to use the land to extend its runway.

The City Hall has already scheduled public discussions on this issue, which will last until February 27 of this year.

Currently, Il-96 aircraft manufactured at VASO, including the presidential aircraft, can only land on the existing runway with a tailwind.

However, the implementation of the project will require the demolition of a number of objects, the "Abireg" publication noted. Five "Stalin-era" buildings and the territory of the city zoo located behind the "Slavyanskaya Trapeza" complex fall into the zone of possible demolition.

VASO is the only enterprise in Russia capable of producing wide-body aircraft with a flight range of up to 9 thousand km. We are talking about the Il-96 series.

The Il-96-400M program has stalled in Russia. There have been no news about test flights for several months.
