A G2 level magnetic storm (maximum level G5) began on Earth on the night of February 16. This was reported by the press service of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI and ISZF.
The G2 level magnetic storm became the strongest in February.
The event lasted less than an hour. According to experts, the Sun has been behaving strangely lately. Astronomers noted short bursts without continuation, auroras, followed by a magnetic storm.
The Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of IKI and ISZF also reminded that a solar eclipse is expected today afternoon. The peak of the event will occur at 15:13 Moscow time. However, it will not be visible on the territory of Russia. The total eclipse will be observed only in Antarctica, and partial phases - in the south of Chile, Argentina and South Africa.
