The construction of the first airport in Karachay-Cherkessia, "Arkhyz", is planned to be completed by 2029, the Russian Ministry of Transport reported after a meeting between Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin and the head of the republic, Rashid Temrezov.
The concession agreement for the construction was signed in July 2024. The infrastructure will be built by UK "Airports of Regions", and the republic will provide connection to external engineering communications.
The project includes a runway of 3000 m, an apron for 10 parking spaces with the possibility of expanding to 23, a modern passenger terminal with boarding bridges, and a parking lot for 300 cars.
According to the ministry, the launch of the new air harbor will significantly reduce travel time to the ski resorts of Arkhyz and Dombay and improve transport accessibility for 600,000 residents of the region.
Earlier, in July 2025, it was reported that the airport was planned to be commissioned before the end of 2028.
