More than 500 TsODD cameras monitor vessel traffic on the Moscow River around the clock

Panoramic cameras and AIS help monitor routes, berths, and passenger safety

In the waters of the Moscow River, more than 500 TsODD cameras track vessel traffic around the clock and ensure the safety of passengers and crews. Panoramic cameras with a 360° view are installed on bridges and supports along the riverbank and are integrated with the Automatic Identification System (AIS), which passenger vessels are equipped with.

Using AIS, employees of the TsODD River Situational Center check vessel documents and licenses, monitor routes and approaches to berths, and also record stops and analyze the load on the water area. In winter, the most active traffic occurs from 13:00 to 15:00.

Navigation on the river operates year-round. About 46 vessels pass through the water area per day, which is 35% more than last year. During the off-navigation period, 20 leisure vessels made more than 1.8 thousand trips, transporting about 140 thousand passengers.

In addition to camera monitoring, staff are on duty at electric vessel berths, and the Water Patrol, together with the Moscow City Search and Rescue Service, conducts raids to ensure safety control on the water.
