Russia has offered India cooperation in the production of the T-90MS tank. This was reported by Rosoboronexport.
The company offered further cooperation and assistance in organizing the production of combat vehicles as part of the Make in India program. The exporter added that the Т-90МС can be produced at the same enterprises where the Т-90С/СК modifications are already being produced.
The implementation of the program will be significantly accelerated by the use of many components and ammunition already produced in India serially.
In February 2001, Russia signed a contract with the Indian Ministry of Defense for the supply of Т-90С. The document provided for the supply of finished tanks and vehicle kits for assembly in India.
As a result, the agreement with India became a "lifeline" for the Russian tank industry, whose portfolio as of 2001 included a domestic order for only three vehicles.
Alexander Mikheev, General Director of Rosoboronexport, stated that the Т-90МС aroused great interest among foreign buyers, but did not disclose specific countries.
Ivan Grachev, a researcher at the Central Economics and Mathematics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, noted that the Russian Federation earned $6 billion from the supply of Т-90С to India during the entire period of cooperation.
