On Thursday, February 12, a Proton-M launch vehicle carrying the Elektro-L No. 5 hydrometeorological satellite was successfully launched from Site No. 81 of the Baikonur Cosmodrome, according to the Roscosmos broadcast.
The satellite's operational orbit will be 35,786 km, the state corporation noted.
The launch of Proton-M with Elektro-L No. 5 was originally planned for December 15, 2025, but it was postponed to eliminate deficiencies.
During scheduled pre-launch system checks, specialists identified a local discrepancy in the rocket's upper stage. On February 9, the state commission authorized the rollout and installation of Proton-M at the Baikonur launch complex for the subsequent satellite launch.
Elektro-L hydrometeorological satellites make it possible to obtain and process multispectral images of cloud cover and the Earth's surface across the entire observable disk of the Earth.
