China hoped to purchase the NK-32 turbofan engine from the Tu-160 "White Swan" bomber from Russia, but was refused. This was reported by the Chinese publication NetEase.
Analysts stated that the PRC needs this power plant to equip its own new strategic combat aircraft.
Nevertheless, Russia's basic position regarding the NK-32 remains unchanged. It would rather the plane remain sealed in warehouses and covered in dust than export even one drawing or part.
The Chinese side took this decision with understanding and recalled that the NK-32 is not just a super-powerful engine, but the basis of air strike forces within the "triad" of nuclear deterrence.
In addition, Russia understands the value of these engines and will do everything possible to protect them from copying, Chinese analysts added.
China has extremely strong potential for mastering and adapting technologies. Russia clearly does not want to repeat this mistake.
Engines of the NK-32 series are built at "ODK-Kuznetsov" in the Samara region. The company has secured orders for products until 2027, according to Deputy General Director Oleg Vydumlev.
