Certification and acceptance tests of the 2ES11-001 Orlec AC main freight electric locomotive continue at the VNIIZhT Experimental Ring in Shcherbinka. The machine, developed and manufactured at the Ural Locomotives plant (part of the Sinara Group), is undergoing a key stage of testing before a possible launch into series production.
The tests started in December 2025 and are proceeding according to plan. In the first stage, the locomotive has already accumulated a significant portion of the planned 5000+ km of mileage at speeds up to 120 km/h. Specialists are carefully studying:
- braking characteristics,
- traction and energy performance,
- heating and operation of equipment,
- electromagnetic compatibility,
- interaction of all systems.
The second stage includes additional measurements of thermal, strength, and dynamic parameters, as well as verification of the working conditions of the locomotive crew and compliance with sanitary and hygienic standards.
The 2ES11 electric locomotive was developed as an import-substituted successor to the 2ES7 series, created in collaboration with Siemens. It is equipped with a Russian asynchronous traction drive with a power of 8000 kW. The weight of the electric locomotive is about 200 tons, and its design speed reaches 120 km/h. In a three-section version, it is capable of pulling trains weighing up to 9000 tons, which is 42% more than the capabilities of previous models.
The test program is scheduled to run until April 2026 (Q2). After successful completion of certification and obtaining all necessary permits, the electric locomotive is planned to be launched into serial production.
